Wendy Schwartz's paintings are in private and corporate collections nationally as well as Europe and Canada. In the San Francisco Bay Area, paintings may be seen at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Artists Gallery.

I am drawn to a spare but emotionally powerful landscape-- long fields, shadows, tidelands, the edge of a town, its back alleys, the remote shed or cottage, barn or grain elevator or mill, a not-quite empty room, or abandoned places that suggest a past story. In these landscapes and interiors, I try to use light and detail in ways that will strenghthen the painting, but also keep the scene true. The depiction of a place has to feel authentic to me, as if it could exist, which may not mean the same thing as “realistic”.

The images shown here are representative of current work, although many of these particular paintings are no longer available.
